History of VN Club

Dear friends,

VN Club (or Vietnamese Student Club) was founded on 26 March, 2004 - just 1 year and three months old. It is a very young Club. 1 year and three months is the time of ups and downs. I still freshly remember the time before VN Club was founded. A group of Vietnamese overseas students including found it necessary to have a meeting place for us because we did not know many other Vietnamese students who were studying and living in Brisbane, Queensland. A thought of forming a Club flashed my mind. I got all my friends’ email addresses that I knew and created a Yahoo account (vnsclub2004@yahoo.com). We shared information with one another about accommodation, buying and selling, study, travel, etc. People started to get interested in doing so. I kept on making friends with other Vietnamese students and asked them if they wanted to join VN Club. Many Vietnamese students joined the Club after they were introduced.

Just by a simple action, VN Club now has 400 members from different universities around Queensland, namely the University of Queensland, Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology, James Cook University, and Central Queensland University. Now some of them have returned Vietnam to continue their work and still keep contact with us. In 3 years, VN Club has become a reliable place for old, new and would-be Vietnamese students in Queensland.

Through VN Club, Vietnamese students come together and have made significant and practical contributions. Last year, VN Club raised approximately $ 1,000 to help a needy family in Vietnam. At the moment, VN Club has raised more than $500 in order to help unfortunate fates in Vietnam. In 2007, VN Club also contributed more than 20,000,000 VND to the victims in Can Tho Bridge and flood-hit areas.

VN Club proudly had Vietnam Kids – a soccer team – which ranked the third place in 2005 and now was the runner-up of UQ Soccer Competition. We also had another soccer team called “W@W” playing side by side with Vietnam Kids. Other names of our soccer team are Water Buffalo, Red Bamboo (once the Champions of UQ soccer team in 2006), now VN-United.

The spirit of friendship and peace of the Vietnamese youth can be seen in VN Club. The Vietnamese Student Festival I is a vivid proof of this spirit. Hopefully, VN Club (http://www.vnsclub2004.blogspot.com/) will bring more benefits to the Vietnamese students who have been studying and living in Queensland. On behalf of VN Club, I would like to wish you good health and prosperity.

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Khoa Anh Viet
